Michelle Bates
Michelle, a descendant of the Gamilaroi, Anaiwan and the Irish, lives and works on Awabakal country.
Michelle is a Narrative Practitioner, Counsellor and Supervisor, with an undergraduate degree in Education/Disability Major and a Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work, along with Clinical Supervision, Mediation and Critical Incident Debrief Training along the way.
The vast body of Narrative Ideas, innately offering responses to trauma, seeks to reduce the influence of problem stories in people's lives. Many therapeutic responses become possible including creating awareness of our strongly held values, and finding responses when they have been transgressed, understanding our preferred identity, strengthening personal agency, crafting responses to challenging times, meaning- making, and regeneration of our whole being by exploring the ways we seek to understand ourselves, our strong stories and our relationships in our world.
Michelle’s current work offers support to children, young people, adults and families, seeking safety and well-being, together, or in separation, people living with developmental or acquired brain injury, or other disability impacts, or experiencing mental ill health, loved ones left behind (grief, loss, missing persons), women experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence, and those curious to explore their expertise and deepen and strengthen their understanding of themselves.
